New York

Ok all you bloggers....my official first blog is going to be on New York!! I know all of my friends and family are just chomping at the bit to hear what went on in the Big Apple...so here it goes!!

Day 1

I suppose I should start at the beginning....the flight from Utah to New York. Actually, we took a couple steps backwards before we went forwards....lol. We flew to Long Beach, California at 6:00 p.m. and left Long Beach at 11:00 p.m., because of the layover. The flight from Long Beach to New York lasted about 6 hours....which means we landed in NY at about 5:00 p.m. I actually did sleep...off and on throughout the flight...so that wasn't so bad. :)

When we got to NY we (the 38 people that I flew with) grabbed our luggage and got onto a bus which took us to the hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania which is on 7th Avenue and 32 Street. Considering what they told us at the NY meeting the day before (they said really scary things!!), it was a pretty nice hotel.

There were about 7 of us at the Hotel from Choir, so we decided to wait around for the rest of the people from our group to show up. Once they showed up, I helped some of my friends get their Metro Passes for the Subway (which we would be using all week). Then we all went back to the Hotel.

We found our chaperones, and left for the Empire State Building. It was only about 2 blocks away, so that was nice. We took the elevators to the 86th floor, to the observation deck. The view was absolutely spectacular!! I got lots of great pictures! It was such a gorgeous view!!

After that, we had lunch at a little pizzaria, and did a little shopping.

We met up with everyone back at the Hotel, and the choir people got ready for the performance at Trinity Church. When we got there, we were allowed to walk around the gardens for a little bit. I took some really cute pictures!! Then we went into the church. It was really humbling to see that much old history. They actually filmed part of National Treasure right were we perfomed!! On the stage steps!! It was so cool!! I got to stand where Nicolas Cage did!! AAHH!! :) We all sounded really good...the sound bounced off of the walls, so we actually got to hear ourselfs sing!! It was awesome....except my camera died...so I don't have any pictures of the inside of the church. :( Saddness!!! You'll just have to take my word that it was spectacular. :)

Then we went back to the Hotel, we went upstairs to get our bags. When we got off the bus, some bellhops had taken everyone's luggage to a couple different rooms. There were two main rooms...one was small, and the other was a suit (which consisted of about 6 different rooms!). After looking in both rooms for about an hour, and coming very close to an emotional breakdown (Lack of sleep, and mondo stress will do that to a girl)...a couple of my friends and I found out that everyone's luggage had been put into 3 rooms, not 2, and since we had come with the band people (why this happened I can't know)...out luggage was in the 3rd room. Goodness Gracious that made me mad!! So then I went to my room, and in the first 5 minutes of being in my room had a little squabble with one of the girls that I didn't know (that was just so much fun!) (NOT!!), and got settled into the room with 4 other girls.

We had a little time then, so I went to...dinner I think....I know I'm forgetting something because this was a long period of time....Oh well, hopefully I'll remember it later. :) Ha ha
Anyway, so after dinner, I got ready to go to STOMP. I went with the chaperon I was supposed to be with, and we took the subway a little way to get there, then walked the rest of the way.

I must say that STOMP was absolutely spectacular, and I enjoyed every second of it!! They used so many different things to make really cool noises. They used trash can lids, brooms, big blue plastic water holder thingies, trash bags, cups and straws, car parts, sticks, and even boxes of tic-tacs!! It was truly a sight to see!!

After STOMP, we went back to the hotel, and I got to sleep at about.....11:30 p.m.

End of Day 1
